Differences Between Open and Closed Rhinoplasty
21.07.2026Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdal Sakallı1 min read
In rhinoplasty, open and closed describe the route used to access nasal structures. A natural result depends on appropriate planning and surgical technique as well as the incision type.
Open approach
A small incision between the nostrils allows a wider view of tip structures. This may be preferred for marked asymmetry, extensive reshaping or some revision cases.
Closed approach
Incisions are made inside the nose. In suitable cases, certain changes can be planned without an externally visible incision.
Which is better?
There is no single better technique for everyone. Nasal structure, skin thickness, desired changes and earlier surgery influence selection. The technical decision should follow examination.
